Presentation

Today the creation of musical works is undeniably at a zenith, however there are still many composers who are not getting an opportunity to present their works in public and consequently there is very little likelihood that these works will ever be played regularly in concert halls. The Avui:Música Festival was created for the specific purpose of offering the public the opportunity of discovering and delighting in the musical creations of the present day and those of the last century.

For the first edition the Festival has established a relationship with Hungary, a country with a long musical tradition where creators and interpreters have long contributed to create a musical heritage of international renown. The link with this country is through one of the most currently significant Hungarian composers György Kurtág to whom we wish to pay special homage. His music reaches out into the essence of sound with his very own and particular musical style, which differs from the majority of music created in his time.

The music, the presence of Joan Guinjoan, the Festival commissioned world-wide première of the work Inner Changes by Agustí Charles and the première of the work for marimba by Agustí Fernández are proof that musical creativity in Catalonia is at a peak. There will also be the opportunity to listen to the music of other composers from other countries like Portugal, Mexico and Germany so the audience will be transported on a pleasant trip through the fascinating world of the sounds of the present.
